In 2009 Cody used YouTube to upload songs of himself singing Jason Mraz's 'I'm Yours' as well as tracks by Justin Timberlake and two of his own songs, 'One' and 'Perfect.' Famous producer Shawn Campbell discovered him and he was signed to Atlantic Records. During the summer of 2010, Cody moved to Los Angeles to complete work on his debut album.
