Stages of Stardom: Johnny Depp
See how Johnny Depp has made a truly unique mark on red carpet style.
1987: Jump In
Johnny Depp got his start on a very well-known show called '21 Jump Street' that aired in the 80s. He's been in tons of movies and recently rose to fame with a younger generation roles in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean.' His style for this shot was pretty typical of the 80s, with a leather jacket and tan fedora.
More on Johnny
1990: Mellow Yellow
We admire people who take chances with their style and Johnny Depp is one of those people. The problem is sometimes he tries a little too hard to be different. We like the properly-fitted suit, it's the mustard color that was weird. His ex, Winona Ryder, looked gloomy on his arm in that black dress with sheer sleeves.
1991: Patterned After
For the Golden Globe Awards Johnny opted for this crazy ensemble. The pinstriped pants with goofy vest and jacket were just overboard. This outfit was just all over the place and a total mess. Winona Ryder, on his arm, helped redeem him by going for a classic, black dress.
1994: Perfectly Styled
Finally, a photo we're impressed with. Johnny looked fabulous at the Academy Awards in 1994. His simple black tuxedo was the perfect choice for this formal award show.
2001: Laying Low
Johnny moved to France in the late 90s and his style started to reflect the change. He seemed to have a different passion about what he wore after the move and this outfit shows that. The disheveled button down shirt with a poncho-type shawl around his neck was a carefree and almost silly attempt at style.
2003: A Pirate's Life
This pinstriped pantsuit at the 'Pirates of the Caribbean' premiere was a better choice then his previous attempt at the stripes. We liked the chocolate brown color of the suit and in typical Johnny fashion he topped it all off with a hat and wingtip shoes.
2005: Rough Around the Edges
As grungy as this plaid shirt and cowboy hat were, we liked the look on Mr. Depp. He looked scruffy and stylish in an messy, deliberate way. Our favorite part of this outfit is the wide-band, leather cuff on his wrist. If there's one thing Johnny works hard at, it's accessorizing.
2005: Fashion Factory
For the 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' premiere, Johnny wore this pretty, blue suit. We liked the suit, though the fit was baggy. And the sunglasses, blue wingtip shoes and beret-style hat were all out of place for that red carpet. He certainly brings a bit of France with him everywhere he goes.
2005: Turning a Corner
When he hit the red carpet for the 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest' premiere, Johnny looked great. His slate grey pants with matching hat were stylish and a perfect choice. The black shirt accented the grey nicely and we liked seeing the brown leather cuff come back.

2006: Still at It
Johnny has certainly taken his share of fashion risks over the years and he hasn't stopped yet. We liked his longer hair and sunglasses but weren't quite sure what was up with the messy style. We also didn't understand all the necklaces, a man wearing one necklace is usually enough.
