Pretty Pointers: Get Cheeky
Applying blush should come out like a natural flush not overdone redness! Read our tips on how to do this naturally.
Step One: Brush Up
Your brushes will ultimately decide how natural and good your blush looks. A good blush brush helps the color glide on and makes it highlight the contours of your face. Brushes can be expensive BUT are worth every penny. Good quality brushes are washable, so you won't throw them out for MANY years. We recommend investing in brushes like the ones from Bobbi Brown or Stila.
Step Two: Countour Counts
Blush should highlight your cheeks by bringing a natural flush to your skin. And since it should be natural, you should practice with a neutral shade that is only one shade rosier than your skin tone. Suck in your cheeks by making a fish face and notice your cheekbone jutting out. Make note of this because this is where your blush should be applied.
Step Three: Apply Sparingly
Now that you know where your cheekbone is, apply blush lightly along this line. Make sure to blend it in, and you should notice a slight glow right on the base of your cheeks. A perfect blush will make you look like you are a little flushed and radiant. Cargo Blush is a great blendable blush that comes in 13 shades.
Step Four: Blend Right In
If you notice you've applied too much you have a couple of things you can do. DO NOT start swiping your fingers at your cheek or use a rough piece of toilet paper, this will annoy your skin and actually rub the color in. Grab a soft tissue or even a shirt (make sure you don't mind the possibility of staining it) and start lightly swiping it across your cheek. You can also try to use a contour brush (usually a coarser brush with stiffer bristles) to swipe extra off.
