Instant Messaging

Hey Everyone!

The number one thing you asked for in the new AOL Kids. was instant messaging. We heard you and are working hard to create an AIM that is safe for kids. It is going to take some time though, because we want to ensure that this new product lets you chat with the people you (and your parents) want, and ignore those you don't. So as they say, good thing come to those who wait. We will keep you updated as we make progress, and once we are ready to go, you will definitely know.

In the meantime, for those of you who MUST have it now, grab mom or dad and follow these steps:

1) Set up an AOL Kids. account by clicking Sign In/Register in top right of the header of the site. Then click Create a Screen Name.

2) Once you have your own Screen Name, have mom or dad head over to parentalcontrols.aol.com. From there, they can download the software and set up an account. After their account is made they can choose to have their Screen Name oversee your AOL Kids. one.

3) Once they have linked the two Screen Names, they can go in and set up your IM Allow List. This is a list of friends and family who you are allowed to message with. Once that is all set up, head over to download the AOL software.

4) Download the All-in-One Software at http://daol.aol.com/software.
5) Once it is set up, log on using your AOL Kids. account, and you should be able to use the AIM tool. This will already have your Allow List.

We know this is a lot of work, but hopefully it will hold you over until our new product is ready. So hang in there; we are working as fast as we can :)
