Wolfe is from a new book, "Cats 24/7," by Rick Smolan and David Elliot Cohen. The cat photos in the book are selected from thousands submitted last fall from animal lovers and American photojournalists. The book and a companion dog book, reflecting the diversity of cat and dog life across America, contain more than 500 photos each.

Using genetic engineering, scientists at Tokyo University say they have successfully switched off the rodents' instinct to cower at the smell or presence of cats, showing that fear is genetically hardwired and not leaned through experience, as commonly believed.

Steven Vassall, 28, who was posing as a veterinarian, was collared last week and charged with unauthorized practice, criminal mischief, attempted petty larceny and other criminal counts, said Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes. He was released on $2,500 bail. Burt was an alleged victim of Vassall.
