The Bratz IM Interview
KOL Editor Alanna IMed with 'The Bratz' stars, Janel Parrish and Logan Browning about how they got started in music and acting, what their favorite cookie is, and of course, what it's like to be a Brat!
Janel Parrish: hi alanna its janel from bratz!
KOL Alanna: Hey! We usually kick our interviews off with a really silly question... If you can be any cookie, what kind would you be and why?
Janel Parrish: a peanut butter cookie becauuuuusssseeee its my favorite, but it has to be a crunchy one
KOL Alanna: Mmm! So, this is a huge summer for you... You have a movie coming out, and a single from the The Bratz soundtrack... How did you get started in movies and music?
Janel Parrish: well i started out on broadway when i was six years old...music has always been my first love. i lived in hawaii til i was 14, where i did a lot of musical theatre...then i moved to LA and started doing some tv work, but bratz is my first big thing!
KOL Alanna: Is it true that you were a contestant on Star Search?
Janel Parrish: ahhh yes when i moved to LA, it was the first thing I did!
KOL Alanna: How was that like?
Janel Parrish: it was a very good experience for me, and i learned a lot from it
KOL Alanna: It seems like L.A. has been really good to you. How did you get involved with The Bratz movie?
Janel Parrish: my agent sent me out for an audition, and i loved the script...i thought it was adorable and that the movie had a really good message.
KOL Alanna: How would you describe your character, Jade?
Janel Parrish: Jade is kind of two people in one...she's very logical and good at science and math, but she's also a fashion designer, and she has to hide that dream from her parents. she's very outspoken and outgoing, and a very loyal friend. i'm very much like her.
KOL Alanna: Wow, science and math! Jade is a smarty pants, huh? What was your favorite subject in school?
Janel Parrish: wow hard question!!! i definitely hated math and science, but i loved english...that was my favorite subject.
KOL Alanna: Tell me about your process in writing music... Did you write 'Rainy Day'?
Janel Parrish: yes, i wrote rainy day about a year or so ago...i write about my own experiences, so rainy day is about an exboyfriend!!
KOL Alanna: How did it end up getting on the movies' soundtrack? Your song is amongst some big artists like Lifehouse and Brick & Lace!
Janel Parrish: I know! Its really a dream come true!! We went in to meet Ron Fair at Geffen before we filmed the movie, and he asked us to sing something...so i got on the piano and just played a little of Rainy Day. Then about a week later, he called me saying he wanted to put the song on the soundtrack...I freaked out!! Well thank you so much, I'm being told to switch with Logan!!

KOL Alanna: Hey Logan! How are you doing? You're living the dream :) What advise do you have for kids who are pursuing music and acting at the age you were when you first began?
Logan Browning: Im great! thanks!! I say find your passion and pursue it with all your heart!! get involved in the community or at school and keep your famiily and friends close by!
KOL Alanna: You were once on 'Summerland' - did you get any screen time with Jesse McCartney? If so, how was he like?
Logan Browning: Summerland was soo much fun to work on. I never actually worked with Jesse McCartney but I did get to meet him and he's wonderful! An amazing vocalist too!! But NOTHING tops my girls from BRATZ.
KOL Alanna: I have to agree with that too! So, you play Sasha... tell me how she's like, and if you're anything like her
Logan Browning: Sasha is very outgoing.. shes classy and sassy and loves cheerleading!! I had SO much fun playing her! I'm a cheerleader too so that was really easy for me. Dance is actually my first love!!
KOL Alanna: Did you have to practice a lot with a choreographer for this movie?
Logan Browning: Yes actually we had about a month or two of dance boot camp! Having dance training helped me to learn the routines fast, but it was still a lot of hard work. Our choreographer actually choreographed the Hollaback Girl video for Gwen Stefani!! She is so talented, and it was a lot of fun working with her
KOL Alanna: That's so cool! Janel answered this silly question already, but I haven't asked you yet - If you could be a cookie, what kind would you be, and why?
Logan Browning: Well I would probably be an M&M cookie because my personality is soo wacky and goofy and COLORFUL!
KOL Alanna: That's a good one! The Bratz are such great friends... What does friendship mean to you?
Logan Browning: I LOVE my friends!! Friendship is important to me because friends are your backbone.. they're there for you no matter what. I stick close to my family and close friends because they know me the best and they support me and keep me grounded throughout this whole process!
KOL Alanna: What kind of music is currently in your iPod?
Logan Browning: Well...lets see.. I just downloaded some Cartel, and I also bought T.I.'s new album and I am absolutely IN LOVE with Carie Underwood!!
KOL Alanna: Those are all really great albums... Do you wish to pursue singing at all?
Logan Browning: I would LOVE to pursue a career in singing! I'm going for it!! If the opportunity presents itself then I would love to! I love to perform! Being on a stage gives you such a rush that doesn't compare to ANYTHING else!!
KOL Alanna: Maybe if there is a Bratz sequel, you can write a song for it ;)
Logan Browning: Yea!! That's a great idea.. I might start writing one soon so that once the second movie begins It will be ready to go!! I'm thinking something with a little country, a little hip hop..and a LOT of flavor :)
KOL Alanna: That's very colorful, just like you and Sasha! Well, here at KOL, we can't wait for the Bratz movie... I wish you girls the best of luck!
