It's School Time!

'High School Musical' has been described as a modern 'Romeo and Juliet' meets 'Grease.' The story circles around Troy (Zac Efron), a popular basketball star at East High, who meets a nerdy and shy new student named Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens). They really like each other, but because they hang out with different crowds, they are torn apart.

The Mean Girl

Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) is 'High School Musical's'bad girl, and along with her twin brother, Evan (Lucas Grabeel), tries to destroy the chance of Troy and Gabriella getting the lead roles in the high school musical. Sharpay and Evan have starred in seventeen of East High's musicals, and do not want anyone getting in the way of their eighteenth show!

The Wildcat

Chad (Corbin Bleu) is Troy's best friend, and teammate on the Wildcats basketball team. When Chad finds out that Troy is trying out for the high school musical, he tells Troy that he doesn't support him, because he doesn't think that the musical is for basketball players.

Nerd Alert!

Taylor (Monique Coleman) is the president of East High's Science Club, and Gabriella's first real friend at East High. Taylor gets Gabriella to join the Scholastic Club, but doesn't approve of her trying out for the musical. She also dislikes athletes, especially basketball players, because they "contribute nothing to society other than slam dunks and touchdowns."

The High School Music

'High School Musical' would be nothing without all of the upbeat songs! For each scene and important moment in the movie there is a song to be sang. One of the biggest song in the movie takes place when Chad and Taylor try to convince Troy and Gabriella not to audition for the musical. They sing 'Stick to the Status Quo,' which is about sticking to what you know.

Going Against The Odds

Troy and Gabriella decide not to listen to their friends, and decide to 'break free' and audition for the musical anyway. But their celebration gets cut short, because they realize they have a basketball game and scholastic decathlon at the same time as the musical auditions!

We're All In This Together

At the end of it all, Troy helps the Wildcats win their game, and Gabriella wins the Scholastic Decathlon, and they even make it just in time to perform at the high school musical! The entire school gathers in the gym to celebrate the big success, and sing 'We're All in This Together,' because they really are! Even Sharpay and Evan join in.
