NASA Space Pennant Design Challenge
Winning Design: Education 4 Exploration
The pennant shows Earth pictured in a book, and STS-118 is going out to space. The space missions signified by the space craft carry space exploration out of theory into practice. The first teacher who is fully trained as an astronaut is going to space in the STS-118. The teacher is taking the visions of an educator, to look at space research with a new perspective. Also, education from now will approach space missions with a more practical approach, and not just theory in textbooks. Hence, futuristically, it will forever be education for exploration.

To the Moon and Beyond
I decided to design my pennand based upon the future of space explorations. The design is supposed to show an orbiter going past the Moon to Mars. I showed Earth and The Earth's atmosphere. I also showed the Moon, Mars, the International Space Station and an orbiter. The last part is 17 stars representing th edeaths from the Apoll I, the Challenge and the Columbia.
Knowledge, Success, Accomplishments
My pennant is about the success of launching the first teacher into space and attaching the solor panels to the International Space Station. The two flags in the left represent the United States and Canada working together on this mission. The apple in the middle represents the teacher going into space. The Shuttle orbiting the apple is the Shuttle they are on and the International Space Station (right of the Shuttle) is complete and showing that this mission will be a success.
Learning and Education Through Splace Exploration
This design represents the connection between classroom and space exploration. The classroom is depicted through the globe, book and pencil. These are symbols of education and learning. The electrical switch that connects the space shuttle to the classroom opens up the possibility of space exploration for students. The apple with the ring around it symoblizes the first space flight of Educator Astronaut Mission Specialist Barbara Morgan into space. The 22nd in the apple shows that space shuttle Endeavour's STS-118 mission is the 22nd shuttle flight to the International Space Station. The red border and blue background are NASA colors.
Astronaut Teacher in Space
Barbara Morgan is a teacher and sometimes people give teachers apples. Barbara Morgan is bringing seeds to space to see how they grow. Barbara Morgan needs a space shuttle to travel to space
Moon, Mars and Beyond
This pennant theme shows the future of space exploration. The picture of Earth with monuments from different countries represents the people of the world. The space shuttle that has launched is heading past the moon to Mars. This shows it has already explored the moon and is heading onwards to Mars. The multitude of nations and NASA have set up the space station and are intent on exploring the Moon, Mars, and all the other planets in our solar system. Hence, the future of space exploration promises to traverse deeper into space and do justice to our basic explorative nature.
