Britney Spears

Grade: A-

We thought Britney looked great at the awards show! Her hair had a nice wave to it and it framed her face nicely. We also like that she went without bangs. It really made her face stand out. Her makeup was done well so it gave her an overall great look. Our one issue is with the color. It seems like there is a couple shades of blonde going on and her roots need a touch up.

Hair Honor Roll: MTV Video Music Awards 2008

Russell Brand

Grade: D

The host for the evening was UK star Russell Brand. We think that his hair is part of his persona, but honestly it looks like he stuck his finger in an electric outlet. The top and back were like a rats nest- all messy and standing straight up in places. If we had to find something nice to say we would compliment the color. Russell was trying to make a statement with his hair and in that he succeeded.

Ciara

Grade: B-

We love the length and color of Ciara's hair but for some reason it just seems too puffy. The body in it is out of control. It almost seems like she has extra hair pieces on there. The result is that the hair overpowers her face and you end up focusing on that instead of her overall look. Flatten it out a bit and it could work really well.

Lindsay Lohan

Grade: B+

Overall we liked Lindsay's hair. The color looks natural and it has a nice wave to it. Our issue is the length. It is too much hair for such a small girl. Had she cut it right below the shoulders it would have worked. Not sure if she is wearing extensions - if so, take them out!

Lil Wayne

Grade: B

Lil Wayne was working the dreadlocks at the awards show. We are not a big fan of them but for dreads, they aren't bad. They aren't too frizzy, not too thick, and look pretty neat rather than chunks of hair coming out. Jason Castro would be proud!

Pink

Grade: C

As with Russell Brand, we know that Pink likes to go for that punk look which sort of explains the hair, but still, it didn't work for us. The color is almost a white which must have come from a bottle. The style, or lack of, seems like she just slept on her hair and then got up and sprayed it however it was laying. Or should we say standing up. We think she could look punk but still look a little more styled.

Taylor Swift

Grade: A

Taylor Swift's hair almost always seems to look good and this awards show was no exception. Her natural color is so pretty and the way her hair curls is nice as well. It isn't overpowering and looks very put together. Her longer bangs work well but should be pushed up just a bit so it doesn't cover her eye. Her makeup was very natural. She very much looked her age.

Bill Kaulitz

Grade: F

Bill Kaulitz of Tokio Hotel had some scary hair. It was like Tina Turner's hair in the early days times about a hundred. His color is a jet black and that, along with his makeup, makes us think either goth or vampire. We don't really know what else to say about this look except to hope that it is either a wig that he can take off or hair that can be tamed.
