Stages of Stardom: Gwen Stefani

1989: Just a Girl

Gwen went from No Doubt's co-vocalist to vocalist in 1987 bringing a girlie, yet powerful spark to the group. From the very beginning Gwen walked to the beat of a different drum with her unique style. We loved the outfit she wore during this No Doubt concert. The full-skirt with the black and white striped knee-high socks was simply genius.

1997: Getting Knotty

It didn't take long for Gwen to attend red carpet events from award shows to charity events like this one. Gwen is known, especially early in her career, for showing her belly. We love her ethnic style and how she adds a punk-inspired flare, like with her knotted hair.

1998: Feeling Blue?

Oh look, the Smurfs showed up to the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. Just kidding Gwen, we dig the crazy hair. She also wore a skirt, black pants, platform flip flops and a blue swimsuit top. Between the outfit and the knotted blue hair, Gwen looked out of this world, literally!

1999: Posing in Pink

No Doubt arrived at the VH1 Fashion Awards dressed to impress in pink. We loved Gwen's crazy hair, fushcia fur shawl and thick platform boots. It was pretty cool that she coordinated with her band member and he wore pink pants. Gwen has always felt comfortable embracing color and pattern.

2001: Simple and Sophisticated

At the 2001 MTV Movie Awards Gwen arrived in a simple black dress with a darted neckline. She also had much longer hair. We're not sure if that was really her hair, or if she had extensions since we know she loves playing with wigs and extensions. It was almost strange seeing Gwen in a simple black dress and not something crazier.

2001: Punk Princess

At the 2001 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, Gwen turned heads on the red carpet in one of her most famous styles. This midriff baring blonde also loves fish nets and chains. We also noticed around this time that Gwen embraced the pointed-toe pump and wore them often at events. Have we mentioned that we love the blonde locks yet? Well, we do! We couldn't imagine her any other way.

2003: Breaking Free

In September 2004, Gwen officially went solo when No Doubt decided to take a break. Her first single 'What You Waiting For?' appeared with its video dominating MTV. Gwen stepped it up at the 2003 Billboard Music Awards by going with a formal, lavendar, two-piece skirt suit. Gwen stayed true to her quirky personality which showed through her crimped updo, high heels and darted neckline.

2004: Ruling the Red Carpet

Gwen arrived at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards looking absolutely amazing. We can see how mature she is, not only the fact that she has gotten older, but also through her fun, yet sophisticated wardrobe. We love this tulip skirt with a corset-style top and black pumps. Mixing vibrant colors is Gwen's style and we hope she never changes.

2004: Posing with Her Posse

The album, 'Love.Angel.Music.Baby,' hit the shelves in November and introduced Stefani's four-woman "posse," the Harajuku Girls. The Harajuku Girls were inspired by Stefani's fascination with the young club kids in Japan that have a fun attitude toward fashion. Gwen's outfit at the 2004 MTV Video Music Awards was like something out of the movie, 'Alice in Wonderland.'

2004: Hitting the Big Screen

In 2004, Gwen starred in the award-winning movie, 'The Aviator' as Jean Harlow. At the premiere Gwen looked pretty in pink. She wore this beautiful formal gown with her hair in sweet, but sassy ringlets. But staying true to her image, Gwen added a punch to her outfit with leopard-print pumps that peeked out from under the hem of her dress.

2005: Hollaback Girl

Gwen's two singles, 'Rich Girl' and 'Hollaback Girl' quickly dominated pop and dance radio. With both movies and music under her belt, she moved into the world of fashion and introduced her clothing line L.A.M.B. We love Gwen's originality, independence, confidence and drive. We cannot wait to see what's next in her life and career!

2006: Looking Magical and Maternal

Only Gwen Stefani could make pregnancy look this good. Her empire waist, leopard print dress showcased her round belly perfectly without sacrificing any style. Pregnant women everywhere were suddenly envious of how great this soon-to-be mommy looked.

2006: Slimmed Down

Did this woman really just have a baby? Check out how slim and great Gwen looked just months after giving birth to her son, Kingston! She definitely has a love affair with animal prints, and these shorts looked excellent paired with dark tights and a dark sweater.

2006: Stylish Mom = Stylish Baby

There was no doubt (pun intended!) that Kingston James would be one super-stylish babe! He looked simply adorable in his comfy, snowsuit with little bear ears. And Gwen looked great with her bangs styled high, wearing skinny jeans and carrying a nice, big handbag.

2007: Wowza!

We have never seen Gwen Stefani look better. As she geared up for the release of her sophomore solo CD, she looked PHENOMENAL! We loved the flirty, black dress and pretty, platinum curls. This girl's on fire and we can't wait to see what comes next.
