Anne Jacqueline Hathaway was born on November 12, 1982. She was named after Shakespeare's wife. Her mother was an actress which inspired her to give it a try. Anne grew up in New Jersey and trained as both a stages actress and singer. She made her acting debut in 1999 in the short-lived TV series 'Get Real.'

2001: Becoming a Princess

Anne's first big role was when she auditioned and got the role of Mia Thermopolis in 'The Princess Diaries.' She played a shy teenager who suddenly learns she is royalty and has to transform into a princess. Anne was perfect for the role and received great reviews for her first comedic film. A sequel to the film was immediately planned.
