Carrie Underwood tried out for 'American Idol' in St. Louis. The judges immediately loved her and from there she made it through Hollywood and into the Top 12. When she sang Heart's 'Alone' on the show, Simon love it and predicted she would go onto win.

Boy was Simon right when he predicted Carrie would win 'Idol.' During her time on the show she gathered a fan base called "Carrie's Care Bears." She was never in the bottom three and in May 2005 beat out Bo Bice to take the title.

Carrie Marie Underwood was born on March 10, 1983 in Oklahoma. She has two younger sisters. As a child, Carrie performed in talent shows and sang in church. She graduated from both high school and college with good grades. Carrie tried to get a record deal but it wasn't until her 'Idol' audition that things started to look up.

Carrie is a top-selling artist. Her debut album 'Some Hearts' was certified 6x platinum and is the fastest selling debut country album in Nielsen SoundScan history. It produced five #1 singles including Inside Your Heaven," "Jesus, Take the Wheel", "Don't Forget to Remember Me", "Wasted," and her biggest hit to date, "Before He Cheats. Carrie's second album, 'Carnival Ride' has already sold 2 million albums and produced a #1 single "So Small."

Carrie is the first 'American Idol' winner to take home prizes at all three major music awards in the same awards show season (06-07), including a grand total of four American Music Awards, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, and two Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist. In 2007 she won three CMT awards and three Academy of Country Music Awards. Where does she put all of these?

Back on the 'Idol' Stage

Carrie was asked to come back to 'American Idol' and perform at the finale of season 6. She performed "I'll Stand By You" at the Kodak Theatre. She also participated in the charity night "Idol Gives Back" and traveled to South Africa.

Carrie loves animals. In fact, at age 13 she became a vegetarian because she couldn't bare to harm animals. Carrie is a big supporter of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).and has done several PSAs for them.
