Chris Warren Jr. Interview

KOLSteph: Hi Chris, welcome to KOL.com. Thanks for joining us today.
ChrisWarrenJr: Thanks for having me.
KOLSteph: Congratulations on 'High School Musical 3' that's opening soon. I am sure you are really excited for the premiere. Any big parties planned for the cast?
Yeah, we have a couple of things that we are going to do. At the premiere at USC we have a little party before the premiere and then we are going to watch it. So that should be fun.
KOLSteph: So you will be walking the red carpet?
Yep. It should be cool.
KOLSteph: What do you like best about playing Zeke?
ChrisWarrenJr: I guess I like that I get to play a character that is different than me. He is not like me in real life. I get to be somebody else and be silly and just have fun on camera. That's fun for me.
KOLSteph: Is there any way you are like Zeke or are you two total opposites?
ChrisWarrenJr: I am pretty much the opposite but in HS I was a jock. I used to play basketball and football so I guess that is a similarity.
KOLSteph: And if you had to pick his favorite thing to bake, what would that be?
ChrisWarrenJr: Definitely Crème Brulee
KOLSteph: Are you a baker? Do you like to bake?
ChrisWarrenJr: No, not really. It's a lot of acting.
KOLSteph: Of all the musical numbers you have done throughout the three movies, which has been your favorite one?
ChrisWarrenJr: 'A Night to Remember' which is a dance number that's in the new movie. It's kind of like our prom theme. That's definitely my favorite one.
KOLSteph: How have you found learning all the choreography? Does it come easily to you or do you have to work at it?
ChrisWarrenJr: It comes pretty easy because I did 'The Lion King' when I was 12. I have done different things like that. I have help from Kenny and a lot of other people. It's hard work but with how much rehearsal we have it comes pretty easy.
KOLSteph: Out of all three movies- any funny moments on the set or funny memories from doing them?
ChrisWarrenJr: There are a lot of times on set when I am doing a scene with Zac or Corbin that we try not to laugh, but we end up making each other laugh in the middle of our scene. That's happened a bunch of times on HSM2 and HSM3. I think that's what makes us have a lot of fun- it's not so serious. We get to have fun while we are working. Those moments are definitely cool.
KOLSteph: How is it working with Zac, Vanessa, Ashley, Corbin and everyone? Have you become friends? You have done so many movies together I would think you have spent a lot of time together.
ChrisWarrenJr: Doing three movies together you definitely become close. But we are all really busy too so it's hard to hang out with each other. But we get a lot of time to hang out when we are doing the movies since we are with each other every day. We have definitely become close. It's been fun creating relationships with everyone.
KOLSteph: You have done both TV and feature films. Which do you like better? Have a preference?
ChrisWarrenJr: I definitely prefer film. That's always been my thing that I wanted to do. Dramatic film. That's what I have always done with some other projects and what I want to do.
KOLSteph: You mentioned you did 'The Lion King.' when you were younger. What was it like to be on Broadway?
ChrisWarrenJr: It was great. It was definitely an experience that I had never been a part of before. It was crazy to going out there performing in front of 3-4,000 people and playing this character. I watched this cartoon when I was younger so it was kind of like being a part of something I already knew. It was a huge production so it was definitely one of the biggest things I have ever done.
KOLSteph: What was the most challenging part of it?
ChrisWarrenJr: I think initially when you first get there kind of being overwhelmed by everything and all the things you have to learn and being part of something so huge. That was probably the hardest part. But once I got it and got into it, and we did it every single day, it became a part of life. When you first get there it is probably the hardest part- I really have to do all this stuff?
KOLSteph: I was reading that you are working on some music. Are you hoping to put out a CD?
ChrisWarrenJr: Yes, I am hoping to really soon. A lot of the HSM cast has put out CDs. I want to do a rap CD because it is different. That's all I listen to and all I do is rap music. I figured that would be something different so I figured I would try it.
KOLSteph: Is it something that you are working on now or is it done and coming out soon?
ChrisWarrenJr: I am working on it now.
KOLSteph: If we took your IPod right now, what would we find on it?
ChrisWarrenJr: A lot of Lil' Wayne, he is my favorite rapper. Kayne West. Pretty much all rap. There might be a little R&B and I actually have a couple of rock songs on there because I usually don't listen to it. Like I have that new Pink song. And old school rap and Marvin Gaye. Mostly rap and old school stuff is mostly what I listen to.
KOLSteph: I know you said in HS you were a jock. I read that you played linebacker for your HS team. Which do you more challenging- being an athlete or an actor?
ChrisWarrenJr: I don't know; that's a tough question because they are both just so different. Being an actor is more mental and being an athlete is all about being physical, well it's both I guess. That's a tough one because they have both been a part of my life and two things that I have to do so it's hard to say which is harder. I would probably say football because it is so grueling you know being hit and working out. It's tough on the body.
KOLSteph: Any other projects coming up besides 'HSM'?
ChrisWarrenJr: I have a movie I am doing that's coming out next year called 'Must Be the Music.' And I am taking a bunch of meetings on other films I want to do. But I am just deciding what I want to do next after 'HSM', what the next step should be.
I also just launched my web site chriswarrenjr.com and I have some cool stuff on there. Definitely go check it out.
KOLSteph: We like to do a segment called On the Spot where we give you two things and you choose your favorite. First one, summer or Winter?
ChrisWarrenJr: Winter
KOLSteph:Vanilla or chocolate?
ChrisWarrenJr: Chocolate of course
KOLSteph: Video games or board games?
ChrisWarrenJr: Video Games
KOLSteph: What’s your favorite?
ChrisWarrenJr: Madden
KOLSteph: French fries or pizza?
ChrisWarrenJr: Oooh, those are two of my favorite things in the world but I will have to go with pizza.
KOLSteph: City living or country living?
ChrisWarrenJr: City living definitely.
KOLSteph: PB&J or PB & Marshmallow fluff?
ChrisWarrenJr: I am going to have to go with PB&J because I haven’t even heard of the other one.
KOLSteph: Thanks for speaking with us Chris. We will look for your rap CD and we are all excited for 'HSM3.'
