Inkheart Movie Review

Read What We Thought of the Movie

I got to see 'Inkheart' a week ago at a press screening. Honestly, going into it I didn't know what to think. From all the info and previews I had seen it looked kind of confusing and seemed like just another Brendan Fraser adventure movie. I was wrong. The movie was actually really fun and got better as it went along.

The basic story is about this man named Mo (Brendan Fraser) and his daughter Meggie. Mo is a silvertongue meaning anything he reads aloud comes to life. When he still didn't understand his powers he read his daughter a book called 'Inkheart' and in the process he brought a lot of the characters out of the book and sent his wife in. From then on he has been searching for another copy of the book so he can rescue his wife. The challenge is that one of the characters he read out of the book named Dustfinger wants back in and the evil one named Capricorn wants to use Mo's power for his own gain and to take over the world. Along the way Mo and Meggie get help from a lot of different people including other characters read out of books and their relative Elinor Loredan. I don't want to give the ending away so you will have to go see the movie to find out if Mo is reunited with his wife.

I really enjoyed this movie and thought all the actors did a great job. Eliza Bennett who plays Meggie also has a song on the soundtrack and music video. Check it out! I think my favorite was Helen Mirren as the crazy aunt who loves books. She was very funny and added some comic relief to the movie. Another fun aspect was seeing all the characters that have been brought out of books and trying to figure out what books each are from. The one thing I will warn you about- if you get scared easily I would think twice about seeing it or just hide your head towards the end. Overall I would give it 3 and a half stars out of five.
