Jennette McCurdy AIM Interview
KOL Chats With the 'iCarly' Star

KOLSteph: Hi Jennette, welcome to KOL. Thanks for taking time to speak with us.
iCarlyJennette: Thank you for having me.
KOLSteph: So we understand you have been busy with season 2 of iCarly.
iCarlyJennette: Well, we're starting up in a few weeks so we've been doing a ton of publicity stuff and photo shoots lately.
KOLSteph: do you enjoy doing all the PR stuff?
iCarlyJennette: Yeah it's really cool. I love doing interviews and hearing all the different questions that people ask!
KOLSteph: What's the best part of doing a photo shoot?
iCarlyJennette: Photo shoots are kinda hard, but they were way harder in the beginning. I think it's cuz you just stand there and smile the whole day, so your cheeks get pretty sore lol. But the best part is probably thinking of funny things to make yourself laugh.
KOLSteph: I bet you do get tired smiling.
KOLSteph: Take us back- how did you find out that you got the role of Sam on the show?
iCarlyJennette: Well I had actually done a guest starring role on a show called Zoey 101, and the creator/producer of that is also the creator/producer of iCarly, so he had me in mind for the role of "Sam" ever since I shot Zoey 101.
iCarlyJennette: But I still had to go to a screen test.
KOLSteph: So the role was sort of made for you!
iCarlyJennette: Yeah, I guess you could say that! I feel honored :-)
KOLSteph: Do you feel you are like Sam in anyway?
iCarlyJennette: Me and Sam are similar in that we're both a bit edgy and kinda wacky, but I'd say Sam is kinda like me to the 10th level. For example, I wouldn't go smashing boys into lockers or anything like that
iCarlyJennette: and Sam hates school but I love school
KOLSteph: have you ever gotten detention like Sam?
iCarlyJennette: Well I've always been homeschooled, but I've always done my schoolwork so if I went to public school I don't think I would've been sent to detention
iCarlyJennette: It's funny cuz when kids meet me they say I'm really different from Sam iCarlyJennette: I think it's cuz they curl my hair on the show
KOLSteph: do you like playing the girl who gets in trouble?
iCarlyJennette: Yeah, it's definitely cool since I would never do things like that in real life. It's kinda like I live vicariously through Sam haha.
KOLSteph: What's it like to work with Miranda Cosgrove and Nathan Kress?
iCarlyJennette: It's cool. We spend 10 hours on set together 5 days a week! We know pretty much everything about each other.
iCarlyJennette: I hang out with Nathan sometimes aside from the show, too.
iCarlyJennette: He's lots of fun.
KOLSteph: Ah, so the Freddie/Sam bickering doesn't carry over to real life?
iCarlyJennette: No! haha that's one of the main questions I'm asked. It's actually pretty funny cuz we'll be bickering nonstop during a scene, then the director yells "cut!" and we'll start doing hand jives and stuff
KOLSteph: LOL- sounds like you guys have fun. What's been one of the most memorable times on the set?
iCarlyJennette: Ooo, probably my most memorable time on set was my birthday. We were shooting the dance episode so we had all these awesome dancers down from New York and New Jersey and Florida (I'm friends with all of them! They're great!). Everyone on set made my birthday extra special by ordering my favorite ice creams and giving me a billion balloons and this huge b-day card. And a bagpipe player played Happy Birthday for me!
KOLSteph: Wow- sounds like an awesome celebration.
KOLSteph: Before iCarly you guest starred on lots of TV shows- what's been your favorite?
iCarlyJennette: My favorite job to this day has been Law and Order:SVU. I played a girl who had been badly abused, so the part involved lots of crying and seriousness. It was one of my first big guest leading parts...but the coolest thing was that I got to go to New York for 2 weeks to shoot it!
KOLSteph: Is it hard to cry on cue?
iCarlyJennette: It's definitely hard to think all of the sad thoughts that are required to cry on cue. You really have to put yourself into the role but bring along sad memories of your own so it's pretty draining by the end of a dramatic day.
KOLSteph: I can imagine.
KOLSteph: Besides iCarly, what other projects are you working on?
iCarlyJennette: There's actually this movie called Proving Ground. The director/writer of it had seen me in a part I did on a show called The Inside and contacted my mom shortly after that. He's revised the script a few times and the project is currently in pre-production, but he's willing to work around my iCarly schedule so hopefully he can figure out a way to get it done!
KOLSteph: can you give us any details about what it's about?
iCarlyJennette: Sure! It's sort of like a battle between two girls in spacecrafts. Similar to Star Wars but for a younger audience!
KOLSteph: sounds fun- speaking of Star Wars- we read that you are a huge fan?
iCarlyJennette: YES!!!
iCarlyJennette: Han Solo rocks - for the record.
KOLSteph: What's been your fav movie?
iCarlyJennette: Ooo, the originals. The new ones are cool, too, but I don't think they compare to the good ole originals!
KOLSteph: yeah, I happen to love the Ewoks
iCarlyJennette: Of course!
iCarlyJennette: I love wookies and ewoks
iCarlyJennette: I actually have a dog named Chewbacca
KOLSteph: that's awesome- do you have other pets?
iCarlyJennette: Yeah, my dog Chewbacca is a half matlese/half yorkshire terrier and my dog Musashi is a jack russell terrier. I also have two little sea turtles named Tootsen and Zeus
KOLSteph: Do the dogs come with you to the iCarly set?
iCarlyJennette: No, but I wish I could bring them! I think the producers would get mad at me if they barked :0(
KOLSteph: We read when you aren't acting you are doing ice skating, dance, piano and karate. Which do you like best?
iCarlyJennette: Figure skating, for sure! During my time off, I've been skating about 2 1/2 hours a day, 5 or 6 days a week. I'm trying to fit in as much skating as I can before iCarly starts back, cuz my schedule gets INSANE then and I don't have as much time for skating.
KOLSteph: Do you skate at competitions?
iCarlyJennette: I actually haven't competed, but I just performed a exhibition routine at an American Girl event. That was so much fun! My coaches want me to compete, though, so I'll have to start soon!
KOLSteph: good luck with that- maybe we will someday see you on TV for skating!
iCarlyJennette: Yeah, I would love to be in a skating movie!!
KOLSteph: We like to do something called On the Spot where we give you items and you tell us your favorite. Sound good?
iCarlyJennette: yep
KOLSteph: Vanilla or chocolate?
iCarlyJennette: vanilla!
KOLSteph: summer or winter?
iCarlyJennette: winter
KOLSteph: online, video or board games?
iCarlyJennette: board games
KOLSteph: what's your favorite board game?
iCarlyJennette: Monopoly, Clue, and Moods
KOLSteph: french fries or pizza?
iCarlyJennette: Pizza
KOLSteph: city living or country living?
iCarlyJennette: country living - city visiting, though!
KOLSteph: and last one- peanut butter and jelly or peanut butter and marshmallow fluff?
iCarlyJennette: ooo pb and j cuz I've never tried it with marshmallow fluff - sounds tasty though!
KOLSteph: it's very yummy
iCarlyJennette: i'll try it :0)
KOLSteph: Well, thanks so much for taking time from your busy schedule to chat with us!
iCarlyJennette: Thank you so much! I had a great time!
iCarlyJennette: :0)
KOLSteph: Good luck with the new season of iCarly! Bye
iCarlyJennette: Thanks! Bye :0)
