May 22, 2008 - And the Winner Is
It was the two-hour finale of 'Idol' last night. The show consisted of lots of performances including the Idols current and past, and special guests like ZZTop, Donna Summer, Bryan Adams, Seal, etc. Oh, there was even a performance by the "I am Your Brother" contestant who auditioned. Other highlights were Jimmy Kimmel giving a recap of the season and Mike Myers as The Love Guru advising the two finalists. Both Davids took home a Ford Escape Hybrids. At the end of it all and 97.5 million votes later, David Cook was crowed the next 'American Idol.' Really either David was deserving of the title. Both have great voices and took chances during the season. We were expecting it to be David Archuleta, but are very happy with David Cook. We know both will go on to have great careers. Congrats to David Cook! What do you think of the results? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
May 21, 2008 - Battle for the Title
Last night it was David vs David in three rounds of performances. The first round was songs chosen by Clive Davis, a big record producer. We thought both the song choices were great and two strong performances. We agree that David A was a little bit better. And was it just us or did Randy say it was the battle of 2007? Isn't it 2008? Oh well. Round two were songs from the writers' contest. David A definitely picked the more emotional- this is my moment song, but that's not surprising since he is into the ballads. David C did more a soft rock song which again, is right up his alley. We agree with Simon that it didn't create that standout moment, but that's not really David C's style. The last round was the contestant's choice. We didn't LOVE either of the performances but agree the edge went to David A again. We definitely agree with Simon that David C should have done Billie Jean or the Lionel Richie song, two songs that everyone knows, and ones that had been his stronger performances. The night ended with Ruben Studdard singing 'Celebrate Me Home.' It's gonna be a close battle but we think the title is going to go to David Archuleta. What do you think? May 15, 2008 - David vs David
Last night on the results show they had clips of each of the contestants going back to their hometown and doing appearances. All of them cried (well, David C was tearing up) and were amazed by all the support. It must be like a dream for these contestants. This is a start of hopefully a great career for them. Former 'Idol' winner Fantasia performed, and like Simon, we were in shock. With bright orange hair, she danced around the stage and mostly screamed instead of sang. Overall we didn't like the performance and we aren't sure if that's going to help her sell any records. Maybe she should stick to Broadway. When it came time for the results, we don't think anyone was surprised that we said goodbye to Syesha. The Davids had been the front runners for a while. So the stage is set, next week's finale is David A vs David C. Who do you think will take the title? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
May 14, 2008 - The Top Three
Last night each of the finalists sang three songs to battle for a spot in the finals. One song a judge chose, one they selected and one a producer selected. That definitely explains why the choices were all of the place. Some were good like David Cook's last song by Diane Warren while others just made us scratch our heads. Overall we think there were solid performances but nothing that, as Simon said, was a defining moment. If Randy said "It was just OK for me" one more time, we thought we were going to lose it. So now the big question... who will make it to the finals? We still stick to our battle of the Davids prediction because we just don't think Syesha did enough with her performances to overtake either of them. Hey, third isn't so bad. What did you think about the performances? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
May 8, 2008 - Down to Three
So we finally called it right. It only took most of the season for us to be right. Last night we said goodbye to Jason Castro. It wasn't really a surprise after his disastrous performances. Even he seemed ready to go. Of course the two Davids were both safe right away. We are pretty sure the final showdown will be a battle of the Davids. Besides the elimination there were performances by the top four, Maroon 5 and Bo Bice, and the usual answering of fan questions. What did you think about Jason being sent home? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
May 7, 2008 - Rock and Roll Baby!
The top four contestants sang songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last night. That actually gave them a wide variety of choices so it was interesting to see what they selected. We have to agree with the judges that David A took the night. He picked smart songs and just hit them out of the park. David C and Syesha both had good, solid performances. Now Jason, on the other hand, was a mess. He forgot the lyrics and just seemed off on the songs. As soon as the first song was over we knew Simon was going to trash him. For this late in the competition he was very bad. He needs to bringing it like the others, not select bad songs for his voice and forget the lyrics. To his credit he did continue well after he forgot. Anyway, we agree with Simon that Jason should pack his bags. What did you think of last night's performances? April 30, 2008 - Bye Brooke
So last night we said good-bye to another Idol finalist. At least we got one of the bottom two correct. We thought Syesha was going to be there, but we didn't think Brooke. She seemed to have such a big fan base. We guess Jason's is bigger because despite the so-so performances, he keeps being safe. Maybe it's the dreadlocks. In the end we said bye to Brooke. She was very emotional. Besides that, they top five sang a Neil Diamond tribute and he performed along with Natasha Beddingfield. Was it just us or was she hitting on David A? Oh, and the best part of the whole show- when Simon's first crush called about their first kiss. He was totally blushing. What did you think of the elimination? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
April 30, 2008 - The Top Five
Last night on Idol the top five contestants tackled the music of Neil Diamond. Overall we had to say it was the night of the Davids. David Cook picked two lesser known songs but did a great job with them. David A had two of Neil Diamond's more popular songs and hit them both out of the park. We like what Simon had to say about 'America.' We agree with the judges on Jason's performances, both sounded quite similar and nothing exciting. He does need to try something new. Syesha was very theater-like and we definitely think she belongs on Broadway not as the next American Idol. Brooke had split performances with the second one being really strong. Our pick for the bottom two, not that we have been right lately, is Syesha and Jason. We'll see tonight if we are right. What did you think of the night? Who do you think is going home? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
April 24, 2008 - Carly's Going Home
So again we can't seem to pick the bottom two and person going home correctly. Based on their performances we thought for sure that Jason and Brooke would be in the bottom two but nope. They were both safe. Instead Syesha and Carly, both of whom had one of their best performances of the season, were on the stools. In the end we said goodbye to Carly. At this point we agree with the judges that popularity is coming into the voting. Besides the crazy elimination, Leona Lewis (Simon's discovery) performed and the top six did "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera. What did you think of the elimination? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
April 23, 2008 - Belting Out Broadway
Last night was all about the music of Andrew Lloyd Webber. He is a great composer and has done some of the best shows including Phantom of the Opera and Evita. Some of the finalist were really in their element like Syesha, while others really struggled like Brooke and Jason. Syesha did a great performance from Starlight Express and we have to agree with the judges, this is her element. Brooke did a song from Evita but after forgetting the lyrics and starting again, she was thrown for the whole performance. Jason picked Memory from Cats and did OK but that song is used to a big powerful voice. David A and Carly both had solid performances and David Cook did well with Music of the Night from Phantom but needed a bit more of the power notes. We have to agree with Simon, this really isn't David's element. Our prediction for who's going home- Brooke. What did you think of the performances? Post your thoughts on the message boards.
