
The 2012 Olympics are just one month away. Find out some fun facts as we begin our olympic coverage.
The 2012 Summer Olympics will take place in London from July 27th to August 12th. Here are 10 fun facts:

1) They had hoped to have 70,000 volunteers to help out at the games. More than 240,000 people applied.
2) Roughly 8 million tickets will be available for the games.
3) 10,000 police officers will be available as well as 13,500 members of the armed forces.
4) The official mascots of the 2012 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games are Wenlock and Mandeville. They are 2 drops of steel from a steelworks in Bolton.
5) 4,700 medals have been produced by the Royal Mint.
6) Athletes from 197 countries will compete in the games.
7) Athletes will compete in 26 sports, from basketball to fencing.
8) Women's boxing is included as a sport for the first time ever.
9) Baseball is no longer an olympic sport. They considered including karate, golf or rugby, but ultimately decided not to replace baseball with anything else.
10) Queen Elizabeth II will officially open the games on July 27th.
